The hinterland behind Nice is filled with beautiful places that are simply waiting to be explored ! I have been visiting, hitch-hiking and trekking around the area for quite some time. The past two weeks have been dramatically filled with treks around two small villages next to Nice called Sospel and Peille.
1. Sospel
Sospel is a small highland village located about 41Km away from Nice. As I usually use public transport to get to and from places, getting there is fairly simple. We have a touristique train called "Train des Merveilles" which runs a service from Nice to Breil-sur-Roya on the Italian border. Sospel is one of the towns on that line. On the 07th of June, I decided to go to Sospel on this train.

Leaving early in the morning at about 6:00 AM from home, I made my way to catch the 07:35 AM train. It was on time and before long, I was seated in it, and heading into the mountains.
Afte a string of precariously perched villages, rugged mountain scenery and a particularly long tunnel cut into the mountain, I finally made it to Sospel.

As you can see, Sospel is built around a river called the Bevera. I quickly bought myself some provisions from the local supermarket : cheese and tinned fish and quickly crossed the bridge into the village area. The hill I was to climb lies behind the village and is called Mont Agasien.
Here are some pictures, maps and facts of the trek :
