I did think of covering the various treks that I have done recently one by one, consecrating one blog post per trek...however, I must apologize that I don't really have the time to do that as am busy with work and various other preparatifs. In guise of a replacement, I will thus offer a long, general post of the various places that I have done recently. It is much too difficult to treat them individually. So here go's !
1. Breil-sur-Roya

Breil sur Roya is a border village built around a lake, right next to the Italian frontier. The initial idea was to touch the border stones that demarcate the frontier between the two nations. However, the trail was not practicable after the village of Bancao. What was remarkable however was the excellent home made cheese (cows milk) available : Tome de Vache de Breil and a great lunch of Steak and Fries at the end of an excrutiating day.
2. St. Etienne de Tinée
St. Etienne de Tinée is in the central valley of the Tinée, next to the ski station of Auron. Climbing there was a beautiful experience. I spent the first night at the small hamlet of Roya, in a trekkers hut and attacked Auron and St. Etienne the next day. The entire experience at the hut was great with home made food, cheese and wine.
3. Saint Honorat
Saint Honorat was a welcome change from the mountains. It is an island off the town of Cannes, which is owned by monks living there. The monks have their own abbey and live there. Currently, there are 21 monks living on the island. They have a vineyard where they grow grapes for wine and various other liquers. A beautiful trek.
I have done other treks recently too - to St. Martin de Vésubie, the village of Peillon, Bar sur Loup and other places. However, writing on each of these would be an onerous task, as I trek nearly once a week. Suffice it to say that the hinterland around Nice is worth discovering !
